An announcement made by DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan on Saturday said that Tiruchy would be trifurcated into Tiruchy north, south and central districts owing to the appointment of Nehru as principal headquarters secretary, as was reported by DT Next earlier.

Tiruchy north district comprising Musiri, Thoraiyur and Manachanallur constituencies would be headed by ‘Kaduvetti’ Thiyagarajan, while Mahesh Poyyamozhi would lead the party district which covers his Tiruverumbur constituency, Manapparai and Tiruchy east. The party district comprising Tiruchy west, Srirangam and Lalgudi seats would be led by Vairamani. While incumbent Thiyagarajan has been appointed district secretary of his district, the other two were made in charge of respective party districts.

Mahesh Poyyamozhi would be first person from the party youth wing to be made district secretary, thanks to its secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin who was instrumental in effecting the organisational shake-up to accommodate his friend in the parent party. If sources in the party are to be believed, the influential youth wing secretary had even pushed for two of his men in Tiruchy district, but the idea was vetoed by Stalin who was keen on only appointing members of select communities in the districts.

The DMK high command hopes to also make similar changes in a few other districts, especially in the nine newly-formed revenue districts, which would be developed into separate party districts. This apart, secretaries of some non-performing districts would be shown the door. The party secretaries of Thiruvallur, Vellore and a few western districts would be replaced with relatively young members, sources said.
