The duo demonstrated the modus operandi behind the killing in the midst of the police. After recovering a pistol and a knife allegedly used by the accused in the killing, the custodial interrogation is proceeding at a good pace and both the accused are cooperating in the probe, Kanniyakumari Superintendent of Police N. Shreenath said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kanniyakumari District Crime Branch, KP Ganesan, who’s the investigation officer, said during the 45-minute duration, the duo exactly demonstrated how they attacked the Sub-Inspector with a knife and gunned him down. The bloodstained knife was recovered from a drainage near Thiruvananthapuram bus stand on Friday, the DSP said.

Investigations revealed that the duo travelled in an auto-rickshaw from Neyyattinkara in Thiruvananthapuram and walked down to the check post after alighting from the vehicle, and murdered Wilson. Three bullets were used to kill the victim. While a pellet was removed from his body, two others were recovered from thecrime scene.

The recovered pellets had already been sent to ballistics test and the pistol with five live rounds, which had been recently recovered from drainage in Ernakulam, would also be tested, after producing it before the court.

Apart from weapons, a bag containing clothes, toothpaste, brush and comb, which the duo handed over to another person in Neyyattinkara, was also recovered.

Over hundred witnesses had so far been inquired, DSP Ganesan said. Wilson was allegedly gunned down by Thoufeeq and Sameem in the night of January, 8 while he was on duty at the Kaliyakkavilai check post on Market road, located along Tamil Nadu-Kerala border.

After being arrested and jailed, the police took the two accused for a 10-day custodial interrogation from January 21, after producing them before the Kanniyakumari District Principal SessionsCourt, Nagercoil.
