To hold talks on the disputes pending between Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is expected to visit Tamil Nadu in a month.

Kerala Minister for Tourism and Co-operation Kadakampally Surendran on Friday held a meeting with state Environment Minister KC Karuppannan and Minister for Tamil Official Languages K Pandiarajan, at the Secretariat. In the meeting that spanned for over 30 minutes, issues related to tourism, archaeology and excavation and Kannagi temple dispute were discussed.


Addressing reporters, state Environment Minister Karupannan said, “Kerala government is planning to construct a tourist bungalow in Kanniyakumari at a cost of Rs 15 crore and works are undertaken to issue permission for the project within one month.”


When asked about river water disputes, Karuppannan said that already the talks between the two states on the issue has commenced. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami visited Kerala first and now his counterpart Pinarayi Vijayan is expected to visit the state within a month.


Pandiarajan said that the roads leading to Mangala Devi Kannagi Temple in Idukki district bordering Tamil Nadu is in bad condition and talks on relaying the road and to promote tourism was also discussed. “Talks at the level of Secretaries will happen soon to develop tourism in and around Kannagi Temple,” he added.


Later, Surendran said that similar to Keezhadi, Musuri is another historical place with rich artefacts. There are also many links between the two sites and joint excavation in Musuri is also discussed in the meeting, said Surendran.
