Speaking to reporters in Salem, Veeramani said that Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami is showing double standards on the hydrocarbon issue.

“The Chief Minister writing mere letters to the Centre against the project is of no use. Why then is the government reluctant to enact a law against the project? In this matter, the Centre is trying to snatch away the rights of the states,” he said.

Stating that the law and order situation in the state has become a laughing stock, Veeramani said that even police officials are unsafe in Tamil Nadu. “Only the BJP leaders get armed security,” he said.

Pointing out that conducting public exam for Class 5 and Class 8 may cause depression among children, Veeramani said that the new education policy attempts to force Sanskrit into the curriculum.

“The Centre is trying to bring caste based education. Also, the NEET exam goes against the basic tenets of the Constitution. Eight students have committed suicide so far. And students were harassed while screening them for the exam, but thereafter malpractices goes unchecked. Students from villages are mainly affected,” he said.

Further, Veeramani mocked the state of being in a hurry to implement the education policies even before its implementation bythe Centre.

The Dravidar Kazhagam has been campaigning against NEET and the Centre’s education policies from January 20, he added.
