Will not apologise for remarks on Periyar: Rajinikanth
Rajinikanth on Tuesday refused to apologise for his remarks on Periyar EV Ramasamy saying that the comments were based on reports that have already appeared in the media.

Southern superstar Rajinikanth on Tuesday categorically refused to apologise for his comments about a 1971 rally led by rationalist E.V. Ramasamy 'Periyar', which has not gone down well with the Dravidian movement leader's followers.
"I did not make up what I said, there are published stories in the media on it, I can show them. I will not apologise," Rajinikanth told reporters here when asked about protests against his remarks.
Rajinikanth's comments came during the 50th anniversary function of the Tamil magazine "Thuglak" last week.
At the Thuglak function, Rajinikanth said that 'in 1971 naked images of Lord Rama and Sita were allegedly displayed in a rally led by Periyar in Salem'. He said that whatever happened in that rally was reported by the media at that time.
The followers of the social activist and politician who started the Self-Respect Movement and Dravidar Kazhagam and is known as the 'Father of the Dravidian Movement', had said the superstar's comments were an insult to Periyar.
While speaking to reporters here Rajinikanth showed some photocopies of the media reports in support of his comments and said that he will not apologise.

"My friend Rajinikanth is not a politician, he is an actor. I request to him that when speaking about people like Periyar, he should think and then speak," Stalin said.
Meanwhile, Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam held a protest against the actor near his residence in Chennai.
Members of the Dravidar Vidhuthalai Kazhagam (DVK) have filed a complaint against the veteran actor for his remarks on Periyar.
Complainants have sought registration of an FIR against Rajinikanth under Sections 153(A) of the Indian Penal Code.Â
