“I am of the firm belief that the Centre will allot funds for the pending projects in the state in the Union Budget. Though the Centre has announced big projects like AIIMS which we welcome, the state needs new projects in manufacturing sector like a new plant by Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd (BHEL) as it has been several years since such projects have landed in the state,” said Pandiarajan, on the sidelines of a private function held in Chennai.

When asked about the expectations of the state from the Budget, Pandiarajan replied that the state has already obtained permission for nine new medical colleges and permission for four new medical colleges have also been sought. “We expect that the Centre would allot funds for all the nine medical colleges and also for the four new medical colleges that we have sought permission for,” said the Minister.

He also said that Railways is another sector where the state is expecting more funds. “In the last four years the Centre has not allotted funds for new Railway projects in the state and this year we expect the Centre to allot funds for Chennai-Kanniyakumari railway line doubling project,” added Pandiarajan.
