Shahul is a local functionary of the Congress. Wilson (57) was gunned by two persons while he was on duty at Kaliyakkavilai check-post on the night of January 8. Navas Shahul, on his social media post, commented that the SSI, during his tenure at Thuckalay, wrongfully detained Shameem, who’s known as Abdul Shameem (29), one of the two accused recently arrested in connection with the killing. During a patrolling, led by the late SSI, Shameem, whom Navas Shah claimed good at studies, was spotted along with his friends chatting on the banks of the Amaravathi. Shameem and his friends were arrested on false charges that they were hatching a conspiracy to blow up an RSS office building. Even after his arrest, the SSI took Shameem away on the pretext of investigation and attacked him. Though Shameem was not an extremist, he was forced to become an extremist following his wrongful detention after a false case was foisted on him, Navas Shahul’s post said. Kanniyakumari Superintendent of Police N. Sreenath said the arrest was made after his social media post proved completely false. After being produced before Kuzhithurai Judicial Magistrate II, Navas Shahul was arrested under Sections 505 (ii) of the IPC and Section 67 of IT Act and remanded in custody.
