Parents seek TikTok ban after death of girl

The girl, studying Class 10 and hailing from Sakthivinayagapuram village near Kangayam in Tirupur district used to post videos by performing dance on tiktok. The accused Velmurugan from Palladam regularly commented on her videos and befriended her. 

They soon fell in love and began to hang out together. Police said the girl was impregnated by the youth. The family members who grew suspicious over her activities questioned her, but she did not reveal anything. She then attempted suicide by self-immolation and was admitted in Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). Despite treatment, the girl succumbed to injuries at CMCH on December 27. 

Based on the dying declaration of the victim, the Kangayam Women’s Police registered a case and arrested the accused under POCSO Act.  Meanwhile, the parents of the victim girl petitioned the Tirupur district administration officials on Monday demanding a ban on tik tok, which claimed the life of their daughter.
