Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tirunelveli Range, Praveen Kumar Abinapu, when contacted on Sunday, said 10 special teams formed in the wake of the incident had been investigating to nab the accused.

Further, the DIG said identities of those accused, who went into hiding, had been fixed, and the teams were conducting extensive search operations to bust their hideout.

The investigation team is on the task of verifying information shared by those callers. Further, the DIG said the government authorities had deputed M. Rajarajan, who is currently Superintendent of Police, Prohibition Enforcement Wing, South Zone, Madurai, in Kanniyakumari district. He would take additional charge of the district to ensure that law and order is maintained.

Since the regular Kanniyakumari Superintendent of Police N. Sreenath was busy with the investigation and he had responsibilities for the conduct of exams to recruit Sub-Inspectors of Police, the additional charge was given to Rajarajan as per directive of the government.

Meanwhile, S. Vijayadharani, Congress MLA from Vilavancode, on Sunday met the bereaved family and spent some time consoling them, sources said.
