TNPSC to probe malpractices in Group IV exams

More than 13 lakh candidates appeared for the Group IV examination conducted by the TNPSC at over 5,500 venues across the state on September 1, last year. In Chennai alone, about 90,000 candidates appeared for the examination. Accordingly, the results were announced in November, 2019. As per the rank list released by the TNPSC recently, it has been noticed that candidates from Rameswaram (1606 code) and Keelakkarai (1608 code) centres have secured the top ranks in the overall rank list.

Denying the allegations of any malpractices, the TNPSC said it has launched a detail inquiry into the complaints. Giving a detail list, TNPSC Secretary K Nanthakumar said that of the total 1,709 candidates appeared in four exam centres at Rameswaram, as many as 37 candidates were shortlisted.

“Likewise, of the total 1,131 applicants appeared in three centres in Keelakkarai, 20 candidates were shortlisted,” he said adding of the 57 shortlisted candidates, a total 40 of them are from other states. Claiming at all the 57 selected candidates were not from a single exam centre, Nanthakumar also said, “a total of 37 candidates, who had appeared in the two regions such as Rameswaram and Keelakkarai were in the top 100 list.”

The TNPSC secretary said that all the allegations and reports about the malpractices will be thoroughly investigated by verifying not only the answer sheets of the toppers but also other documents submitted by them to the Commission.

“There will not be any favouritism or discrimination in the investigation process,” he said adding if there is any fault found during the investigation, action will be taken against the offenders as per law.
