“Stalin is the only leader to oppose the fascist ideology which is spreading malicious rumours against Dravidian icons like Periyar and CN Annadurai. Reputation of Stalin among the people of the state is growing steadily and withdrawal of security cover for Stalin is condemnable,” said Vaiko, in a statement.

Union Home Ministry on Thursday removed the CRPF security cover for Stalin and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam. Earlier, Stalin was provided ‘Z’ cadre security and Panneerselvam was provided ‘Y’ cadre security.

The development was not welcomed by Opposition parties. “At the time when the statues of Periyar have been vandalised in the state it is not proper to withdraw security cover for Stalin,” said Vaiko.

Thirunavukkarasar suspects ulterior motive behind withdrawal of security cover for Stalin. “The withdrawal of security cover for Stalin shows the motive of BJP government. The Centre wants the opposition leaders to keep them in constant fear,” he said.

However, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam justified the withdrawal of security cover for him and Stalin. “There is no motive behind the withdrawal of security cover for Stalin. Centre has thought that I did not require CRPF security cover,” said Panneerselvam, while addressing reporters at Chennai airport.

He also said that Tamil Nadu is the best state in the country to maintain law and order and peace and harmony is prevailing in the state.

Reacting to it, Stalin in a tweet, said, “I wholeheartedly thank each and every one of the @crpfindia personnel for providing security cover for me over the past many years.”

“I urge the government to utilise CRPF personnel to protect universities and students from those perpetrating violence in the name of religion,” he added. However, Stalin’s sister and DMK Lok Sabha MP Kanimozhi condemned the Centre for withdrawing Z-plus security to him.
