The AIADMK government had announced formation of Kallakurichi, Tenkasi, Chengalpattu, Tirupattur and Ranipet, which do not have CEOs. As the government already appointed Collectors and police officials in the new districts, non-appointment of the officials concerned, have put more stress for the existing education authorities, who had to look into two districts simultaneously. A senior official from the School Education Department told DT Next that CEOs would have power to administer all kinds of schools such as panchayat union primary and middle schools, government high and higher secondary schools and government-aided schools and to regulate all kinds of private institutions including nursery and self-financed schools in the revenue district.

Accordingly, each district has a minimum of four district education officers, who would be co-ordinating with the CEO of their respective region and would administer all kinds of schools. The Tamil Nadu Teachers Association President PK Ilamaran said that the details of students of Class 5, 8, 10, 11 and 12, who face board exams, would have to be sent through CEO to get exam related information including to get hall tickets. “Now, CEO in the district, which are bifurcated, had to shunt every now and then to the new districts,” he said adding they should also face two Collectors.

He also said that even welfare measures such as freebie distributions would be affected. A School Education Department official said that there are few staff who are temporarily looking after works of CEO.
