Counting smooth in Delta, big gains for DMK

Counting was smooth in the central districts and the DMK bagged remarkable number of seats than the ruling AIADMK while the AMMK too had won in a few places.

The DMK kept leading in many of the seats across the region despite there were delay in a few counting centres due to poor arrangements.


Out of the panchayat unions in Tiruchy, the Musiri Panchayat Union councilor election results were out for four members and three won by DMK while in Lalgudi, ward No 4 was bagged by an independent candidate Elangovan and one eachwas shared by DMDK and DMK the AIADMK was far behind in the results in Lalgudi union. Similarly, the Pullambadi union, the results were out for three ward council members and all the three were bagged by the DMK.


However, in the interior parts like Marungapuri and Uppliyapuram, both AIADMK and DMK equally shared the seats. The DMK was leading in the other unions like Tiruverumbur, Thuraiyur, Mannapparai and Manikandam in Tiruchy revenue district.


BJP opens account: Meanwhile, BJP candidates Saminathan secured Mannachanallur Kariyamanikam panchayat president’s post while Thathamangalam panchayat has been bagged by the BJP candidate Ravichandran leading to celebrations by the party cadre.


AIADMK MLA’s husband who ‘purchased’ post loses

Interestingly, the Mannachanallur MLA M Parameshwari’s husband N Murugan who had reportedly purchased the Mannachanallur union ward No 5 for Rs 16 lakh had lost in the election. Murugan who was eyeing for the Union chairman post, had reportedly purchased the council member’s post but the DMK cadre who opposed it, lodged a complaint with the police and also with the district election officer and a case was registered against Murugan. Meanwhile, DMK Sridhar astheir candidate secured 2,511 votes but Murugan lost by polling only 1,307 votes.


In several places the AMMK played spoil sport to AIADMK and the party fared well. AMMK candidates secured Tiruverumbur union, Cholamadevi panchayat president’s post and Vengur Panchayat presidents post. Similarly, the AMMK candidates won in the Vengur ward numbers 1,3 and 6.
