Stalin’s criticism sheer intolerance, says Udhayakumar

Revenue Minister RB Udhayakumar on Sunday came down heavily on DMK president MK Stalin for criticising the state government even after Tamil Nadu was chosen as the best state for delivering governance. He said Stalin could not tolerate the fact that Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami could set base for the AIADMK government to continue.

“Tamil Nadu was chosen as the best state for governance by the Union government and Stalin should have appreciated the government. But, on the contrary Stalin has ridiculed the state government and the report of the Central government which is unacceptable from a person coming from a political family which was involved in politics for over 50 years,” said Udhayakumar, in a statement.

Recently, in the report released by the Centre for Good Governance attached to the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Tamil Nadu was ranked first in overall governance. The state celebrated the report and Ministers appreciated Chief Minister Palaniswami for delivering best governance.

However, Opposition parties such as DMK and AMMK criticised the state government strongly. Stalin quoted the report of Childline where Tamil Nadu was ranked second in sexual abuse cases and questioned the veracity of the report released by Centre for Good Governance. AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran called the report “the best joke of 2019.”

In a fitting reply to Stalin, Udhayakumar said, “Stalin expected the government under Palaniswami to tumble in six days, but the efficient administration of Chief Minister has set base for AIADMK rule to continue for years to come. Stalin could not tolerate the best governance award for the state and so is fuming against the AIADMK government.”

Udhayakumar also said that the government is formed by a clear majority mandate given by the people and Chief Minister is chosen by the elected MLAs. Palaniswami was elected by MLAs of the ruling party, but on the contrary DMK was made the opposition party only for late DMK president M Karunanidhi and not for Stalin. Stalin has become leader of Opposition only after the death of his father and was not the natural choice of voters.

Udhayakumar further criticised Stalin for misdirecting people in protests against Citizenship (Amendment) Act and National Citizenship Register (NCR). “Centre has clarified that they are not carrying out NCR and only NPR is rolled out to ease the 2021 census exercise, but Stalin is spreading fake messages and instilling fear among people about CAA and NCR,” added Udhayakumar.
