Step down and face polls, Stalin dares CM
Condemning Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami for his statement that only a few ‘unpopular’ parties were jointly mounting pressure on Central and State governments, DMK president M K Stalin on Saturday dared the former to dissolve the government and face the election afresh.

Slamming the Chief Minister for ‘belittling’ and ‘insulting’ anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) protesters who were fighting to safeguard the rights of Sri Lankan Tamils and minority Muslims, Stalin asked, “If the cash inducted by poll victory makes him imagine that he is popular, is he willing to immediately resign the CM post and face the Assembly polls? People will believe him only if he declares himself as CM candidate and wins the majority mandate of the people.”
“People of Tamil Nadu are not gullible to believe whatever the Koovathur CM says,” Stalin who is also the Leader of Opposition remarked.
Taking exception to the CM’s claim that National Population Register (NPR) was introduced even during Congress and DMK reign, the LoP differentiated between the NPR of Congress and BJP regimes and said that one could only consider it as a misfortune to see a CM of the State badmouth about the protests even without knowing the basic facts.
Remarking that Stalin dares EPS to dissolve govt and face election the ‘residence’ (domicile) was the ground for NPR of Congress regime, whereas the incumbent BJP regime was doing it on religious basis to discriminate minorities, Stalin referred to the AIADMK voting in support of the CAA and said, the people of Tamil Nadu would notbelieve if the CM feigns ignorance now.
Joining the issue with Stalin, state Congress president K S Alagiri condemned the CM for diverting the issue by comparing the NPR of Congress and BJP regimes despite them having numerous differences.
Opining that the CM cannot prevent his party from being unmasked for supporting the communal activities of the ruling BJP, Alagiri wondered if the ruling BJP has courage to fully implement the NPR of the previous Congress and repeal the NPR and CAA?
