The incident occurred when the truck driver, Moful, was reportedly ferrying the load from Vaniyambadi to Jamunamarudur. When the vehicle was negotiating a hairpin bend at Kazhudai Kattu, the truck went out of control. It then crashed through the crash barrier and fell into the gorge, sources said. Though driver Moful reportedly attempted to wrestle out of the vehicle to save himself, he was found dead at a distance of around 50 feet from the road on the hill slope.

Locals on witnessing the incident informed the Jamunamarudur police who then rushed to the spot. They then with the help of locals retrieved the driver’s body which was then sent to the Vaniyambadi government hospital for post-mortem. The police are investigating the cause for the accident.
