Makkal Needhi Mayam founded by actor Kamal Haasan has submitted a petition at the Supreme Court  against India's new citizenship law.

Reports say, the party is the latest among a dozen other political groups and organisations to file petitions against the law in the country's top court.

The new law approved by Parliament last week is seen as anti-Muslim and against the secular nature of India's Constitution.

The Congress Party, Trinamool Congress of West Bengal and a powerful student union in Assam are among a long list of prominent names opposing the law in the court, reports say.

The court is expected to hear some of these petitions on December 18.
