AIADMK forms poll committees with Ministers, veterans

The ruling AIADMK on Monday announced district wise party poll committee to oversee the election works for upcoming civic polls scheduled on December 27 and 30.

The AIADMK headquarters, which concluded with the final list of candidates on the last day of nominations is now on a spree dispatching party poll managers.


Almost all the AIADMK heavyweights ranging from Ministers, district secretaries, MLAs and former ministers have made it to the elaborate list of the AIADMK poll panel. The list announced by party leaders, O Panneerselvam and Edappadi K Palaniswami, mentioned the names of more than two dozen Ministers as party poll in-charges and the district secretaries were also part of the poll committees.


The detailed statement mentioned the names of Ministers P Thangamani, SP Velumani, RB Udhayakumar, C Vijaya Baskar, KA Sengottoiyan monitoring their native districts both rural and urban areas.


For Thanjavur, AIADMK leader R Vaithilingam designated to lead the poll strategy. For Thiruvallur, Minister D Jayakumar is to manage the poll activities, AIADMK sources said.


The party had also roped in veteran leaders like C Ponnaiyan, S Semmalai, P Valarmathi and Gokula Indira to speed up the poll activities. In Theni and Madurai, the party has assigned influential sons of AIADMK leader and Deputy Chief Minister Panneerselvam. OP Raveendranath, Theni MP and his brother will be part of Theni election committee. Similarly, former MP Jayavardhan, son of Minister Jayakumar and Raj Sathyan, son of Madurai AIADMK strongman Rajan Chellappa were also included in the list.


According to the AIADMK sources, the party has formed 38 district committees to cover all the rural areas that will undergo polling by the end of this month. For major districts like Coimbatore 8 to 15 functionaries designated to handle the campaign and election works. In the case of smaller districts like Theni, Thanjavur and The Nilgiris the election committee is restricted to five members.


Meanwhile, the BJP, an ally of the AIADMK had also announced district committees to spearhead the campaign for its candidates. BJP leaderPon Radhakrishnan is monitoring the overall poll strategy of the BJP, Kamalalayamsources said.
