Normal life was thrown out of gear in the Cauvery delta districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Tiruchy after they experienced widespread rains on Friday night and Saturday morning. Schools, however, continued to work due to the ongoing half-yearly examination.

Almost all the delta districts received widespread rainfall from Friday evening. In Tiruchy, the Srirangam area received heavy rains till Saturday afternoon and the water was found stagnating on the roads. The rural parts of the district, too, received a good rain spell.

Meanwhile, districts like Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam received heavy rain since the morning hours and after some time, the rainfall declined around 11 am but later resumed in the evening. The continuous rains forced the people to be indoors the whole day.

Moderate to heavy to rains were witnessed in the rural areas. There was more rainfall recorded in such parts than in the urban parts of the delta region. Further, there was strong winds accompanied by heavy rains in the late hours. However, normalcy was affected with rains during the peak hours.

Rainwater was seen stagnating even on Saturday, forcing hardship on motorists as they rode through the water.

Weather blogger Pradeep John stated that the delta regions might receive heavy rainfall on Sunday, while another spell is expected from next Wednesday.

The regional meteorological centre (RMC) department also issued a heavy rainfall warning for the next 48 hours, stating that heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, including Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Salem, Namakkal and Dharmapuri. Several parts of the State are also expected to witness thunderstorm along with lightning.
