Speaking to reporters, Mutharasan said, the State Election Commission has become a non-functional body as the Commissioner has been acting based on the direction of the Chief Minister, who has been running a BJP-backed government here.

“The state government does not care about the people, but only about executing the plans of the BJP. People are ready to teach them a fitting lesson when the time comes,” Mutharasan said.

Stating that there are several discrepancies in the present local body polls, he said, “We will still approach the court if the disputes are not settled.”

Mutharasan said initially, election for the 27 districts are to be held and next the remaining nine districts, then the city corporations. “Thus, the entire 2020 would be election season,” he quipped.

Meanwhile, he charged that fair conduct of the elections for local body has still become doubtful as the postings are auctioned and the ruling AIADMK is behind all these auctions, he charged.

In the meantime, Mutharasan condemned the Citizenship Amendment Bill and said that the CPI would stage a protest on Saturday in Tiruchy in order to demand the government to withdraw the Bill at once. This would certainly divide the people, he said.
