“The State Election Commission is biased against AMMK, which is now a registered party. Injustice is being done to AMMK and our party legal wing will approach the court seeking justice,” AMMK general secretary TTV Dhinakaran told reporters.

Earlier in the day, Dhinakaran, who offered prayers at former chief minister J Jayalalithaa memorial with the registration papers issued by Election Commission registering AMMK as a party, alleged that the State Election Commission was taking all efforts to weaken the party which is politically fighting against the ruling AIADMK led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

“What we are asking for is our right as a political party and we want a level playing field to contest in the civic polls. The Commission is behaving like an AIADMK wing and is taking all efforts to waste our time and energy ahead of the civic polls,” Dhinakaran alleged.

He added that there is no clear answer from the State Election Commissioner R Palaniswamy on the reason for not allotting a common symbol to the AMMK. “The SEC officials have said that they will issue the clarification order in a couple of days, but we are running out of time as the nomination process has already commenced.”

Dhinakaran said party advocate Raja Senthur Pandian is holding talks with the legal luminaries on the issue and soon we will execute our legal strategy on the issue.

“There were similar hurdles created for us during the previous Lok Sabha polls, but the court finally rendered justice. We are confident of getting a common symbol for the upcoming civic polls,” Dhinakaran said.
