Maran irked over lack of toilets in suburban stations 

Raising the issue during Question Hour, the former union minister said while Swacch Bharat Abhiyan is an immensely successful programme of the Narendra Modi government, it appeared the Railways is working against this major initiative of the government.

He said despite his repeated letters to the Railway Minister, he has not got any satisfactory response. Responding to Maran, who was visibly agitated, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said nowhere in the world suburban railway sections are provided with toilets. However, he said toilets are being built in adjoining areas around stations and even the services of public sector units have been enlisted. He said around 2,000 such toilets would soon come up in suburban railway sections across the country also.
