New guidelines to revamp commercial institutes

Accordingly, Tamil Nadu Department of Technical Education (DoTE) has been entrusted with the implementation of the fresh guidelines to all the commercial institutes imparting training in typewriting, shorthand, accountancy and computer subjects.

A senior official from DoTE told DT Next that many commercial institutions especially in the rural areas function without adopting the existing guidelines, which do not cater to the current industrial needs.

“In addition, it was found that many institutes do not have qualified trainers,” he said adding, “Therefore, it has been decided to bring new guidelines so that it will benefit lakhs of students, who want to take up commercial subjects after the higher secondary exams.”

Also, as per the guidelines, to become an instructor in commercial institution, one should possess Technical Teachers Certificate (TTC Certificate) issued by DoTE. “New curriculum, which would cater job opportunities to the candidates, will also be adopted,” he said.

Stating that the existing institutes, which is registered with the government, would be asked to send GIS images of training centres, he said, the Small Scale Service and Business (Industry related) Enterprises (SSSBEs) certificate is also required to start new institutions. “Institution mapping exercise has been undertaken to devise a suitable strategy for the young students in un-served habitations to have better access to the training institutes,” the official said.

He said that apart from re-totalling of marks and issue of duplicate certificates, the students, who appeared for exam in the commercial institutions in the State, could now avail for revaluation of the exams.

According to the official, a monitoring committee comprising DoTE officials, under the new guidelines, would be constituted to close all the unrecognised commercial institutions across the State.
