Coast Guard fitness challenge held at VIT

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) conducted a mega sporting event on VIT Chennai campus on the eve of the 44th Coast Guard day celebrations.

The event was intended to spread awareness about sports and fitness among public as part of Union Government’s vision of “Fit India Movement”.


The event, held on Sunday, was designed in an innovative way involving all participants in adventure, fitness and sports activity throughout the day, a defence release said on Monday.


The challenge included Coast Guard Mariners challenge, an obstacle course exposing the participants to various challenges faced by mariners at sea, F-45 fitness challenge, to test the muscular strength, decathlon sports activities, which included games like Football, Cricket, Volleyball and Basketball and fitness workshops such as Zumba, Kalari, Silambam, Yoga and nutrition.


The event had five categories of participants, Corporate, college boys, college girls, Armed Forces and individual registration.


All the categories were awarded prizes and trophies and all participants were provided merit certificates.


A total of 40 teams and more than 300 individual participants took part in the event. DJ, food stalls, Coast Guard awareness stall and rest area were also arranged at the venue to entertain theparticipants.
