Chief Minister inaugurates over 600 TNHB houses in Chennai

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday inaugurated more than 600 houses of various types attached to the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) in Chennai.

After inaugurating the houses, the Chief Minister said, “The late chief minister J Jayalalithaa announced in Assembly that 2,800 houses through TNHB would be constructed in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Vellore, Cuddalore, Krishnagiri, Salem, Madurai and Tiruchy, to satisfy the demands of public. Based on the announcement government has constructed 610 houses in Chennai. The Chief Minister also said that 510 Low Income Group (LIG) houses were constructed at the cost of Rs 129.5 crore in MahakaviBharathi Nagar. The houses were constructed at 2.46 acres with 15 floors of individual housesranging from 688 to 721 square feet.


The houses have basic amenities, including two bedrooms, a hall, an attached bathroom, drinking water, sanitary and electrical facilities. A well with attached motors and water tank to store water has also been constructed to provide water round the clock for residents.


Similarly, in Mogappair and Mandaveli houses for High Income Grade (HIG) and in Puliyur houses for Middle Income Grade (MIG) were constructed. In Mogappair, 40 HIG houses at the cost of Rs 12.7 crore, in Mandaveli 12 HIG houses were constructed at the cost of Rs 2.96 crore and in Puliyur, 48 MIG houses were constructed at the cost of Rs 11.97 crore.


In Sathamangalam village in Anna Nagar, a AmmaMarriage Hall was constructed at the cost of Rs 5.51 crore.


Newly elected Bar Council representatives meet CM


Meanwhile, newly elected representatives of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry Bar Council met Chief Minister in his office at Secretariat and submitted their petition with host of demands, including a special resolution to be passed in the state Assembly to make Tamil as an official language in Madras High Court and to pressurise the Centre in setting up a southern bench of Supreme Court in Chennai.
