Toe Chhattisgarh in procurement price for paddy, farmers urge CM

Farmers from Tamil Nadu Cauvery delta region have met Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and hailed his pro-farmer scheme of procuring paddy at Rs 2,500 per quintal.

After the visit, they have urged the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister also to follow the same for the benefit of the farmers here.

According to the farmers, who returned from Chhattisgarh, all the states, including Tamil Nadu, has been giving Rs 1,820 per quintal of paddy, including the Centre’s MSP of Rs 1,750. But, Chhattisgarh has been providing Rs 2,500 per quintal, with the state contribution of Rs 750 along with the Centre’s MSP of Rs 1,750. 

“This procurement price was included in the election manifesto and Bhupesh Baghel had fulfilled the election manifesto. It was heartening to hear as a farmer and so we visited Chhattisgarh and met the Chief Minister and hailed him for his initiative,” said Cauvery Farmers Protection Association leader Sundara Vimalnathan.

The Chhattisgarh Chief Minister told the Tamil Nadu farmers that his state has been cultivating as many as 1,540 traditional varieties of paddy and urged the TN farmers also to undertake such traditional varieties of paddy.

Bhupesh Baghel further told the TN farmers that Chhattisgarh has procured paddy at Rs 20,000 crore and the state has decided to hold a national-level conference to promote the traditional varieties of paddy.
