In a statement, MNM general secretary – Organisation (South and West) CK Kumaravel said that with the local bodies poll not conducted since 2016, public were suffering without elected representatives for the local bodies to highlight their grievances.

“At this junction, the ruling parties and another party which is desperate to come to power were not worried about the public suffering, but for their selfish motives want the polls to be delayed,” he said, adding that for the last three years, the ruling party has been declaring that the local body polls would be held while the opposition party approaches the court. “Now these parties have started cheating their own cadre by collecting applications for party tickets for the local bodies on one hand and approaching the court on the other hand,” he said.

Kumaravel called upon the public to identify and boycott such parties in the 2021 state Assembly polls so that it could pave way for the conduct of localbody polls.
