“Only then the next generation will be involved in farming. The governments can help farmers, but should not control them by imposing regulations. Now, the price of onion has shot up to Rs 100 per kg. After years of suffering loss due to inadequate costs, let the farmers make some good profit,” he said, while addressing the sixth annual general meeting of Velliangiri Uzhavan Producer Company Ltd, functioning under the guidance of Isha Outreach.
Sadhguru further said that when the country was facing famines, some laws were enacted to prevent food shortage. “The situation has changed now, but those laws are still in place. Farmers should be given the right to sell their produce as they wish. Farmers and farming in this country is in a difficult situation and governments shouldn’t interfere with them,” he added.
On the Cauvery Calling Campaign, Sadhguru said the policy-level work of the campaign is underway both among the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka governments. “The Karnataka Forest Department has agreed to donate 73 lakh trees next year. It has also promised to produce ten crore saplings in the next two years,” he said.
