Chop off hands of those dumping garbage in public: Namakkal Collector
In an apparent outburst of anger against the people dirtying public places, Namakkal District Collector K Megraj on Friday suggested that the hands of those dumping garbage on the streets should be cut.

Coimbatore
The strong reaction from the Collector came after one of the farmers raised the issue of garbage menace in public places during the weekly Grievance Day meet. The farmer said that dumping of garbage in public places has been going on unabated and sought to put an end to this issue.
On hearing this, the Collector said he is receiving many photos from concerned citizens on WhatsApp of garbage being dumped in public places. I tell the officials to clean them and so much of money is spent on it. However, the public dump garbage in the same place again. Once the garbage is loaded onto a vehicle and the place is cleaned, they dump the garbage on the same spot again with impunity,”he lamented.
“Will they spit in Singapore or at airports just like how they do in Namakkal bus stand? Unless we change, a solution could not be found for the issue,” he said.
Moreover, the Collector said, “I had asked to cut off their hands. (of those dumping garbage on the streets). Why should they need hands? I am serious that their hands should be cut,” he said.
The farmers who attended the meet said that the Collector, though sounded harsh, had only expressed his real intention to curb the menace of dumping garbage in public places.
