Parking fee: ‘Traffic’ Ramaswamy to move court
Social activist ‘Traffic’ KR Ramaswamy on Monday said he would soon move a public interest litigation (PIL) in the High Court against charging exorbitant vehicle parking fees at Coimbatore Railway Junction.

Coimbatore
After an inspection at the parking lot, the activist said, “I came here to check following rampant complaints of exorbitant charges being collected for parking of vehicles at the station.”
He raised an issue over the railways collecting two different charges for parking vehicles on the junction premises. “It is Rs 50 to park a car in the front entrance while it is Rs 25 at the back entrance. This is unfair and can’t be accepted. Also the railway is duty-bound to provide free parking at the junction, which sees hugefootfalls,” he said.
Ramaswamy also queried the staff at the parking lot in the front entrance on the charges collected for vehicle parking, if proper bills are given to public and sought to know if the timings of vehicles parked in the junction were properly recorded in the book.
However, the staff could not give a convincing reply. The activist also visited the multilevel two-wheeler parking behind the station.
Ramaswamy said that the receipt given to public has no mention of time for which the vehicle has been parked. “I will soon move the court against the irregularity,”he said.
