Stalin also accused the Chief Minister of creating confusion to prevent the conduct of local body elections.

Recalling Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam’s statement that the Cabinet did not discuss indirect mayoral election, Stalin sought to know if the state government had taken the decision to cover up corruption in local bodies. Accusing the Chief Minister of creating confusions, like promulgating ordinance, replacing secretary of the State Election Commission, goof-up in delimitation of wards after carving out nine new districts to prevent the conduct of local body election, Stalin, in a statement, said the Chief Minister should be ashamed of trying to blame the DMK for this.

Elaborating on the AIADMK regime’s dramatic ‘U’ turns on the local body election issue, the DMK president, who is also the Leader of Opposition, wondered what was the reason for the confusion in the AIADMK regime’s policy change on local body election issue.

Justifying the introduction of indirect election during the earlier DMK tenure, the LoP had said that indirect election was introduced by the DMK because the AIADMK regime had rendered the DMK-majority local bodies dysfunctional by running a non-cooperation movement.

Sarcastically thanking the EPS for unknowingly detailing the justification behind the DMK’s policy change, Stalin said that local bodies were being destroyed every time the AIADMK comes to power.

Taking exception to the Chief Minister’s statement on the performance of the DMK regime, Stalin said the people have realised now that the Chief Minister, who does not pay heed to their grievances, does not lend ears even to the LoP in the Assembly.

Advising the Chief Minister to read the Assembly records or consult department secretaries to learn about the performance of the DMK regime, Stalin said the Chief Minister, whose regime was an example of inefficiency and corruption world over, should act in a manner befitting his capacity and avoid blaming the DMK and lying in public.
