Four engineering college students run over by train
In a tragic incident, four students of a private engineering college were run over by a train near Sulur in Coimbatore on Wednesday night.

One more student escaped with minor injuries as he moved away on seeing the speeding train. Police said that the students were consuming liquor by sitting on the track near Rvuthar Palam rail over bridge, when they were run over by Alappuzha-Chennai Express around 11.45 pm.
The deceased persons were identified as Sidiq Raja (22) from Kodaikanal, Rajsekar (20) from Nilakottai, Karuppusamy (24) and Gautham (23) from Rajapalayam, while Visvanesh (22) from Nilakottai escaped with injuries.
Of them, Sidiq Raja and Visvanesh were studying final year, while Rajasekar was in his third year and two others had come to write their arrear papers. After exam, the five persons had consumed liquor at a tasmac bar near Ravuthar and reached the room.
However, they decided to consume liquor again and bought liquor from the shop during its closing hours at 10 pm and chose to consume by sitting on the tracks. “The students, who were boozing on the tracks failed to notice the approaching train. While Visvanesh escaped with minor injuries, four others died on the spot after being hit by train,” police said.
On receiving information from public, the Podanur police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies of the deceased persons for a post mortem at Coimbatore Medical College andHospital (CMCH).
