Speaking to DT Next over the phone, the AICC spokesperson said, “The negativity was consuming me. There is not a single positive news. I wanted to get away from that. Life is normal for everyone else. I cannot be part of that of negativity. It was consuming me. I am a very happy person. I was becoming a person I am not. I had to quit to keep my sanity intact,” she added.

Asked about her role as Congress national spokesperson after quitting Twitter, she said, “I will continue to be spokesperson and be actively involved in politics. Spokesperson is for (airing views to) channels and newspapers. Not for Twitter. Everything is not about defending. You had political parties before Twitter. Whether it was Dravidian parties or national parties, they were made when social network was not around.”

“Any amount of talks (on social media) will not convince people to vote for your party. What gives an assurance that people would come out and vote? The people on Twitter are not the ones who wake up at 5am and come out to vote. They are the ones who say they are too tired or opt for NOTA. It is always about pulling each other down and citing reasons to fling mud at someone,” she said. On her possible return to the social media platform, she said, “Definitely not immediately. Not this year.”
