The charred body of a man was found inside a gutted car in a reserved forest near Siruganur on the outskirts of the district on Wednesday. The police suspect the incident to be a murder and are on the search for the accused.

The body, found on the front passenger seat, was found to have suffered 90 per cent burns, leaving the police unable to ascertain the gender of the person. Initially, the police said it could be a woman. However, they later confirmed that the deceased was a man.

Fingerprints experts collected samples from the scene, and a sniffer dog was also pressed into action. The police managed to trace the registration number of the car and other details.

Upon investigation, the police indentified the deceased as Jahir Hussain (51), a businessman from Kattur here. There was reportedly a dispute between Hussain and R Saravanan (23) of Kunnumedu in Perambalur over money transactions. On November 12, Saravanan had reportedly invited Hussain to his lodge in Cuddalore and had reportedly murdered him, and then burnt the body after leaving it in his car in Siruganur. Based on the complaint, the Siruganur police registered a case against Saravanan, his associate R Manikandan (26), Sakthivel and Mohan, and a hunt is on for them.
