Broken needle gets left in man’s buttock, family seeks action against doctor, nurse
Family of a 20-year-old youth, from Madhavaram Milk Colony, has approached the Chennai police seeking action against a private hospital for medical negligence after a piece of needle remained on his buttock after an injection was administered on him two weeks ago.

Chennai
The incident took place in a private hospital located in Annai Velankanni Nagar on 23 October when D John, an electrician took treatment for fever.
The doctors did not bother to check what had happened despite repeated visit by John with severe pain on his buttock. He was advised to use ice cubes for relief. The family, however, did not understand what exactly had happened.
When John’s family took him to Stanley hospital, doctors found a piece of needle in his buttock when an X-ray was taken. The needle was surgically removed later. The case was also referred to the police as accident case by the Stanley hospital.
In her compliant, John’s mother D Mary has asked the police to act against the chief doctor and nurse of the private hospital as her son had to undergo physical and mental pain because of their medical negligence.
A staff from the private hospital said that it was true that John had taken treatment for fever on October 23. “He returned after two days later saying he was still suffering from fever. He wanted to know if he can take the same injection outside. He made enquiries in the reception about it and was told to consult the doctor before taking it again. He never mentioned about his pain,” the staff said when DT Next contacted the hospital.
However, in the petition filed by Mary, there is no reference of John going to any other hospital for taking another injection and the family had blamed the hospital completely for the mess. The family has lodged a complaint with theKodungaiyur police station.
