4,500 medical vacancies will be filled by month-end: Minister
As many as 4,500 vacancies would be filled through the Medical Recruitment Board by the month-end, Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar said in Thanjavur on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating various facilities at Thanajvur Medical College, the Health Minister said, several facilities, including cardio surgery, organ transplantation, special critical care and the orthopaedic surgery, have been modernised. The state government is happy to listen to any grievances from the doctors and other medical staff.
Vijaya Baskar pointed out that as many as 9,533 nurses who were appointed through the Medical Recruitment Board by the late Chief Minister J Jayalaithaa were regularised and those nurses demanded a revision of their pay-scale and the state government had almost doubled their salary.
“The government is ready to fulfil the requirement of the people working in the Health Department and have been supporting them with greater concerns,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, as many as 4,000 vacancies including 2,345 nurses, 1,234 village nurses and 90 physiotherapists and doctors would be filled through the Medical Recruitment Board by November-end, he said.
Earlier, he inspected the latest facilities inaugurated at the Medical College. Minister Dorai Kannu, District Collector Annadurai, Medical College Dean Dr Kumutha Lingaraj and others were present.
