Condemning the desecration of Thiruvalluvar statue near Pillayarpatti as atrocious, Stalin told reporters here that everyone doubts if there could be a link between the BJP painting the poet in saffron and Monday’s desecration in Thanjavur.

Demanding an immediate probe into the vandalising of the poet’s statue, Stalin, who is also the Leader of Opposition, called for stringent action against those involved in the atrocious and cheap act (of insulting Thiruvalluvar). In a message posted on his official twitter handle, Stalin said the incidence of insulting icons who fought for Tamil have become regular for which the AIADMK regime, which controls the state police, should bow its heads in shame.

Joining the issue with her party chief, DMK Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi tweeted; “They may desecrate Valluvar’s statue. But the morons who did it should realise that it is not just a statue, but a morale of life. The values espoused by Valluvar would live even after those who desecrated his statue die and reduce to dust.”

The DMK and state BJP were engaged in a heated exchange online after the BJP official twitter handle offered to remove the tweet giving saffron hue to Thiruvalluvar if Stalin pronounces a couplet preaching the virtues of equality without mistake.

    Dhinakaran seeksimmediate action

Strongly condemning the vandalisation of Thiruvalluvar in his homeland, which, he called was “unwanted” and “inevitable,” AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran said the poet was beyond caste and religion and common to all. Thiruvalluvar was being celebrated beyond Tamil and Tamil Nadu, Dhinakaran said, seeking immediate action against the people behind the Thanjavur incident.
