PCB official, wife convicted in assets case
A special court in Tirunelveli for trial of cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act on Monday convicted an official of Pollution Control Board in disproportionate assets case.

According to the prosecution, T.S. Kumaravel, formerly assistant engineer, office of District Environmental Engineer, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, was found guilty of accumulating disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 8, 57, 180 between July 1, 2002,  and June 30, 2006.
The extent of disproportion as on June 30 in 2006 was 69.66 per cent. S. Padma, Special Judge, pronounced the accused guilty and sentenced him to undergo four years of imprisonment. The accused was punished under Sections 13 (2) read with 13 (1) (e) under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Besides, a fine of Rs 50,000 was also imposed on the accused. Thillai Uma Shanthi, wife of Kumaravel, is also convicted as co-accused in the same case.
