The Judicial Magistrate court also convicted her husband Biju Radhakrishnan and her accomplice C Ravi to three years of imprisonment. Judge KR Kannan also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on each and ordered they serve nine more months of jail term, if they fail to pay the fine amount.
According to the prosecution, the trio started International Consultancy and Management Services in Coimbatore in 2008 and lured people to invest in the wind mill sector.
In 2008, an industrialist from Coimbatore invested Rs 26.5 lakh, while a trust based in Nilgiris invested Rs 6.87 lakhs in 2009.
Based on their complaints, the Coimbatore district crime branch police registered cases against Saritha Nair from Ernakulam, her husband Biju Nair alias Biju Radhakrishnan and C Ravi from Erode under IPC Sections 420 for cheating and 120 (b) for criminal conspiracy.
They were arrested on January 9, 2009 and chargesheets were filed in 2010 and 2011 in the court. Following the verdict, Saritha Nair said that she would be going for an appeal and moved a petition in the court praying to stop execution of the order. The court then stayed execution of its order till November 14.
