Chief Justice Sahi to take charge on November 13

A notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, said “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi, Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court and to direct him to assume charge on or before 13th November, 2019.”

Meanwhile, Justice KK Sasidharan retired on Wednesday, bringing down the number of judges at the High Court to 54. This is against the sanctioned strength of 75 judges. While it is traditional to offer a farewell to retiring judges at the High Court participated by all the judges, Advocate General and other advocates, it was not held as per the wishes of Justice Sasidharan. Justice Sasidharan was functioning as the law officer for the government of Pondicherry before being elevated as a judge of the Madras High Court.
