    Cop on Deepavali duty dies of cardiac arrest

    A head constable, who was on duty in Koyambedu on Sunday, died of cardiac arrest. The deceased, K Narendrakumar (41) of Nungambakkam, was in the service for about 20 years and was unmarried, said police. He was transferred to Koyambedu last year and was posted on patrol duty at C sector from 7 am to 1 pm on Deepavali day.

    Around 11 am, Narendrakumar fell unconscious and was rushed to a nearby private hospital. However, doctors reportedly asked them to take him to a multi-speciality hospital. Narendrakumar was then rushed to a private hospital in Saligramam. However, doctors there declared him brought dead. His body was sent for post-mortem examination. Koyambedu police have registered a case.


    Meanwhile, a 32-year-old Armed Reserve constable died while his friend sustained injuries after their bike hit a median near Ramapuram on Guindy-Porur road on Sunday night. The deceased, Nallusamy, a native of Sivaganga attached to the AR wing at St Thomas Mount, was proceeding towards Porur on a bike. His friend Bikas (19) of Odisha, who works at a restaurant in Nandambakkam, was riding the bike. Police said Bikas lost control and hit the median, which threw both off the bike. Nallusamy sustained grievous head injuries and died on the spot, while passers-by rushed Bikas to a nearby hospital. St Thomas Mount traffic investigation police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
