According to sources, F Ali Bhai alias Rowther Naina Mohammed (45) from Vellayapuram at Thiruvadanai in Ramanathapuram district is alleged to be a frequent flier transporting valuables, and is also said to have ‘employed’ around 10 persons as ‘kuruvis’.

Against such backdrop, one of Rowther Naina’s ‘employees’ on October 17 arrived from Dubai, reportedly carrying gold beyond the permitted quantity. Customs Inspector Vijayakumar (38), who was then on duty, stopped the passenger and levied a duty of Rs 3 lakh for the goods, including the gold, he was carrying.

As Rowther Naina’s accomplice had no money, Vijayakumar asked him to leave the goods there and take it away after paying the proper duty. He, however, had reportedly informed Rowther Naina, who was waiting outside, to collect the goods, including the gold.

Days after the incident, on October 20, when Vijayakumar came out after his duty during the late hours, Rowther Naina reportedly waylaid him and warned him of dire consequences for hisactivities.

Vijayakumar then lodged a complaint with the Airport police in the morning. Rowther Naina was subsequently arrested and lodged in prison.
