Gadkari’s nod to MP’s idea of jobs for locals in toll plazas

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has asked the secretary for road transport and highways to take necessary action on DMK’s Rajya Sabha MP P Wilson’s request to appointment local language speaking persons at various toll plazas under the control of NHAI.

Wilson has written a letter to Gadkari on October 10 stating that the engagement of persons who are not conversant with either Tamil or English in toll plazas results in chaos and confusion whenever the road users cross the plazas. “If the person who can speak local languages are employed, it would not only generate local employment but would also help the general public who are crossing the toll plazas,” he said, urging the Centre to direct the NHAI to instruct the contractors to employ local persons who are able to speak local languages by invoking appropriate clauses in the concession agreement.

Responding to Wilson, Gadkari acknowledged the receipt of his letter and forwarded to the secretary of the department for necessary action.

Wilson tweeted Gadkari’s letter saying, “Hoping a favourable decision is taken. It will help unemployed youths across India.”
