Speaking on the sidelines of the padayatra to commemorate Gandhiji’s 150th birth anniversary, ex-minister Radhakrishnan said, the Gandhi birth anniversary has been celebrated not only in India but also in England, the country once controlled India.

He charged that the Congress party has forgotten Gandhiji and started celebrating Indira Gandhi andRahul Gandhi.

Criticising the target of Rs 385 crore by TASMAC for Deepavali sales, Radhakrishnan asked the state government to close the Tasmac outlets during the Deepavali days.

“The youth should celebrate liquor-free Deepavali and they should swear not to consume alcohol during the festivals and this would turn them into good citizens. The state government has been affected a lot by the liquor shops and the Centre would soon implement total prohibition,” he said.

He also urged the state to ensure enforcement of total prohibition in Tamil Nadu for the welfare of the people as liquor plays a strong role in the family disputes in the state leading many dysfunctional families.
