Officials from various departments, including Public Works Department, Fire and Rescue, and Highways toiled to clear the mud by engaging earthmovers. Traffic on the stretch resumed several hours after the mudwas cleared.

Rains also led to disruption of the Nilgiris Mountain Rail (NMR) as two huge trees got uprooted and fell on the tracks between Adderley and Hill Grove stations on Thursday. The NMR train, which left Mettupalayam junction at 7.10 am, with about 170 passengers, had to be stopped at Adderley station. The train then resumed its journey at 10 am after the fallen trees were removed from the track.

The train, which was scheduled to reach Coonoor at 10.30 am, reached only at 12.30 pm after a delay of two hours. It then left Coonoorto Ooty.

As heavy rains are likely to continue for few more days, the NMR train services on Mettupalayam-Udhagamandalam route have been cancelled for three days from Friday. Train no 56136 (Mettupalayam-Udhagamandalam) and 56137 (Udhagamandalam-Mettupalayam) have been cancelled on Fridayand Saturday.
