A statement issued in this regard stated, “In its meeting held on October 15 on reconsideration and in modification of its earlier recommendations dated August 28, the collegium decided to transfer Justice Sahi to the MHC.”
Justice Sahi was born on January 1, 1959. After having graduated in law in 1985, he enrolled as an advocate on September 6, 1985. He practiced in Allahabad High Court mainly on the Civil and Constitutional side and worked as counsel for large number of Educational Institutions including AAI (Deemed University), MRI Institute of Maths, Allahabad.
He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on September 24, 2004 and became permanent judge on August 18, 2005. He became Chief Justice of Patna High Court on November 17, 2018.
On September 6, former Chief Justice of Madras High Court Justice VK Tahilramani resigned in protest over her transfer to the Meghalaya HC. Subsequent to her resignation, the senior most judge of the HC Justice Vineet Kothari was appointed as acting Chief Justice.
After the SC Collegium declined to reconsider its decision to transfer her to the Meghalaya High Court, Justice Tahilramani tendered her resignation to President Ram Nath Kovind.
The SC Collegium, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, had recommended transfer of Justice Tahilramani, who was elevated as the high court’s chief justice on August 8 last year, to the Meghalaya High Court. The collegium had recommended her transfer on August 28, after which she had made a representation requesting it to reconsider the proposal. She protested against the Collegium decision to not consider her request against transferring her to the Meghalaya High Court and subsequently resigned.
