In the absence of its charismatic leaders J Jayalalithaa and party founder MG Ramachandran, the ruling AIADMK recalled the sacrifices of its late leaders and the cadre while observing the party’s 48th founding day at AIADMK headquarters here on Thursday.
Late chief minister MG Ramachandran founded the AIADMK in 1972 after he was expelled from the DMK by late chief minister M Karunanidhi.
Chief Minister and party joint coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy CM and party coordinator O Panneerselvam visited the party headquarters leading the celebrations.
Party coordinator Panneerselvam hoisted the flag and garlanded the statues of MGR and Jayalalithaa. Chief Minister Palaniswami and state Ministers also joined the celebrations and distributed sweets to the cadre. The party headquarters was decked up with festoons and AIADMK flags fluttered along the high profile Avvai Shanmugham Salai housing the AIADMK headquarters.
A floral arch was also put in place to mark the party’s completion of 47 years and the AIADMK leaders took turns recalling the history of AIADMK as a party in developing Tamil Nadu. Party presidium chairman E Madhusudhanan, joint convenor R Vaithilingam also spoke on the occasion.
CM and Deputy CM after attending the founding day celebrations, rushed to the bypoll-bound Vikravandi and Nanguneri Assembly constituencies. With several Ministers camping in the Villupuram and Tirunelveli districts as poll managers the usual crowd was missing at the headquarters.
Meanwhile, senior Minister KA Sengottaiyan led the celebrations in poll-bound Vikravandi along with Ministers CVe Shanmugham, KP Anbazhagan and Udumalai Radhakrishnan. “The AIADMK will win the bypoll and the victory will be a Deepavali gift for the AIADMK workers,” Sengottaiyan said after garlandingMGR statue.
