Vellore Collector warns of action after 792 cases
District Collector A Shanmuga Sundaram on Monday warned departmental action against local body officials for their negligence which resulted in 792 dengue cases reported in the district.

Vellore
This year, the number of dengue cases has increased more than double from last year’s 348. Stating that 13 government hospitals and Primary Health Centres (PHC) have a total bed strength of 1,000, he wondered how dengue cases this year could be treated, as nearly 700 beds were earmarked for labour wards. This showed negligence on part of the local body officials, he added in the press release.
Asking the officials in the district to tackle this menace on a war footing, he said Block Development Officers (BDO) should provide pillows, mattresses and mosquito nets in panchayat unions.
He also asked staff at government hospitals and PHCs to be alert and urged them to seek help from students and self-help group members for undertaking anti-dengue measures.
He advised the public to drink boiled water, and instructed officials to personally inspect individual houses to ensure there was no water stagnation that leads to mosquito breeding.
