Civil Court in Bengaluru on Friday. Murugan was also involved in a bank robbery in Bengaluru a few years ago and was wanted in that case.
According to sources, Suresh was one of the two masked men who entered and looted jewels worth Rs 13 crore displayed in the ground floor of the jewellery shop in Tiruchy.
After Suresh surrendered before a Tiruvannamalai court on Thursday, Murugan, the kingpin of the robbery, who was wanted by police of all the southern States for similar heists, surrendered in a Bengaluru court.
While the Magistrate ordered to hand over Murugan to the Tamil Nadu police, the Karnataka police had reportedly sought his custody as he was a key suspect in a bank robbery in their city too. Murugan decided to surrender as he would be under the direct watch of the court and could also escape police torture. The TN police were also taking all steps to bring Murugan back.
It may be noted that the police had questioned several of Suresh’s associates and family members to know the whereabouts of Suresh and Murugan. A day after the theft, the Tiruvarur police nabbed Suresh and Manikandan, another history-sheeter, with 4.5 kg of gold, which was their share in the heist, while riding a bike without wearing helmet.
