    Soon, e-governance system to monitor all Arts, Science colleges

    To ensure transparent functioning of institutions, the Directorate of Collegiate Education (DOCE) is set to launch e-governance system to monitor more than 1,500 Arts and Science colleges in the State.

    The online system, worth Rs 1 crore, will be developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC). It will contain sections such as institution profile, staff profile and student’s attendance monitoring system among others.


    A senior official from DOCE told DT Next that this intranet application would be designed to collect the essential details Science and Arts colleges functioning all over the State under the administrative control of Higher Education Department.


    “These details are to be updated by the respective institutions at regular intervals. Details on infrastructure facilities, contact details, student strength and staff strength will be collected,” said the official.


    He added that the main objective of the e-governance system is to enable the citizens to get basic details of all 1,561 Arts and Science colleges, which includes government institution and self-financing colleges. It will also let students from these colleges know the attendance details for the currentacademic year.


    “The attendance monitor system will have the details of about 4.2 lakh students. Attendance data of every student will be entered by the respective institution at the end of each month,” the official said.


    Stating that e-governance system would also generate hall tickets for students during the examination, the official added, “This online application helps the DOCE streamline and to bring transparency to the examination processing system.”


    On the staff profile, the DOCE official said that the online system would have the essential details of teaching staff working in the colleges such as qualification, service, teaching experience, which will be updated by the institutions on a regular basis. “The citizen corner option will have contact details, infrastructure details, examination performance data, staff strength, student strength details and placement details of each college,” he added.
